Share
Keith Caulfield
00:34
I'm great.
Share
Katie Atkinson
00:35
Awesome.

Keith Caulfield
00:36
I have the wrong script in front of me.

Katie Atkinson
00:38
Oh cool.
Share
Keith Caulfield
00:39
No, no, I have the right one.
Share
Katie Atkinson
00:41
Oh, you just left it in the Gary intro? We're just were missing Gary.
Share
Keith Caulfield
00:46
We're missing Gary.
Share
Katie Atkinson
00:47
I'm like wait, I have the wrong one.

Keith Caulfield
00:49
I was like, how did I screw that up?

Today on the show, we've got chart news on how, for the first time in over a decade, a female group has the number one album in America.
Share
Katie Atkinson
01:19
We talked all about this a few weeks ago and here it is.
Share
Keith Caulfield
01:22
We kind of thought it could happen as
Black Pink's
"Born Pink" debuts atop the tally. Plus, we've got news on how
Harry Styles'
"As It Was", not just an incredible 15th week at number one on the
Billboard
Hot 100 songs chart. While
Luke Combs
lands his second top 10 hit with "The Kind of Love We Make".
Share
Katie Atkinson
01:42
Also on the show,
Rihanna
has been announced as the headliner for the 2023
Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Who could she bring out a special guest?
Share
Keith Caulfield
01:50
Every one.
Share
Katie Atkinson
01:51
What will get left on the cutting room floor? She whittles down her hits, pack catalog into a 12 minute set list. And does this mean new music and maybe even a firm release date for the elusive R9 is on the horizon?
Share
Keith Caulfield
02:04
Keep on dreaming.
Share
Katie Atkinson
02:05
We'll talk about all that and more. Plus very breaking news here. You know we put this podcast out on Tuesdays and on Tuesday, a brand new music video for
Elton John
and
Britney Spears'
, "Hold Me Closer". So Keith and I gave it a quick watch. We're gonna come at you with our first impressions, so stick around for that.

All right before we get into the show, I want to ask Katie about her exciting weekend because if you follow her on Instagram, she has revealed this, that she went to Disneyland.
Share
Katie Atkinson
02:48
Keith's happiest place on earth.
Share
Keith Caulfield
02:50
It's also everyone's happiest. And strangely I wasn't there because we clearly didn't plan this very well, otherwise I should have met with you.
Share
Katie Atkinson
02:57
I told you weeks ago I was going.
Share
Keith Caulfield
02:59
Well, I dropped the ball.
Share
03:00
Also I was there literally the weekend before.
Share
Katie Atkinson
03:02
And I was texting you for lots of advice throughout the day.
Share
Keith Caulfield
03:05
But I want to ask something specific to keep it
Pop Shop
.
Share
03:10
Do you recall any musical moments or moments while you were waiting in line, or maybe while you were like sort of eating a churro, where you heard music or heard atmospheric music or enjoyed music in the park?
Share
Katie Atkinson
03:24
Well, I did notice because the kids and I just recently rewatched "Up" that they played the kind of like theme, which I mean immediately just takes me to the sad beginning of the movie. So I actually got a little emo hearing it in the park. Is that the answer that you wanted?
Share
Keith Caulfield
03:42
Sure that is one of the songs that plays on what they called the Main Street Loop. So when you walk into the park, the first area is Main Street USA. And the pipe music in through all the speakers. And that is one of the songs on the loop that you hear when you first walk in.
Share
Katie Atkinson
03:57
As is
Surrey
with the Fringe on top from Oklahoma, which I was singing along to.
Share
Keith Caulfield
04:07
Wow, well there's our short Disney talk. It's totally music related.
Share
04:16
Okay, well let's move on to the actual meat of the show because it's time for the Chart chat.
Share
04:26
So first up on the
Billboard
200 albums chart,
Black Pink
lands its first number one on the
Billboard
200 as its second full length studio album, "Born Pink" starts atop the list with 102,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week ending September 22nd, of course, according to Illuminate. The eight song set is the first number one on the
Billboard
200 by an all female group since 2008.
Share
Katie Atkinson
04:54
This is where our plug our previous show all about girl groups. And we were asking maybe could
Black Pink
have a top 10 on
the Hot 100
. They did not, sadly, but here we are with a number one on the
Billboard
200. Very Cool.
Share
Keith Caulfield
05:06
Yeah, so "Born Pink" is the second top 10 for the South Korean quartet, which previously debuted and peaked at number two in October of 2020 with its full length debut, which was called simply the album.
Share
05:20
In addition, "Born Pink" is the third album by a South Korean act to top the
Billboard
200 in 2022. Following
BTS
"Proof" and
Stray Kids
mini album, "Ordinary".
Share
05:32
Unlike those two albums which are mostly in the Korean language. "Born Pink" is mostly in English though with a fair amount of Korean lyrics. I believe out of the eight songs, four of them are in English and then the other four kind of a hybrid of Korean and English. So therefore if you added up, it's mostly English.
Share
05:48
Somewhat incredibly "Born Pink" is the first number one on the
Billboard
200 by a female group since
Danity Kane's
second album, "Welcome to the Dollhouse", debuted at number one on the chart dated April 5th 2008.
Share
Katie Atkinson
06:05
It's been a minute. Yeah, it's a long time.
Share
Keith Caulfield
06:09
It's just wild if you think about it.
Share
Katie Atkinson
06:11
Well, I think we said this on the last show, but I think that most people would assume
Fifth Harmony
snuck in a number one album during their time or maybe even
Little Mix
who have were very big during that same period of time.
Share
Keith Caulfield
06:23
But it is weird how like even in sort of the super kind of Red Hot era of like "pop pop pop pop pop" in with
MTV
in the early 2000s, late 90s, like
Backstreet
and
NSync
both had number one albums,
Spice Girls
had a number one,
Destiny's Child
, Hansen had a number one.
Share
06:43
But it still feels like sort of in history more kind of all male groups tend to be number 1 versus all female groups and I don't know why that maybe it's just more of a singles thing because a lot more like maybe girls number 1 single.
Share
Katie Atkinson
06:59
And I have a theory about it. That is very you know that plays on generalizations. No, I think that the fans of a boy band are going to be pretty much majority female, very rabid. I think that the fans of a girl group are also going to be majority female, but don't have the like the whole, you know crush idol relationship with a girl group that they do with the boy band.
Share
07:26
And so I think that that just lends itself to a more rabid fan base because you, and these are generalizations, because obviously there's I'm sure men and women who are crushing on girl groups and I'm just going off of the like very typical, you know, teen fan girl.
Share
Keith Caulfield
07:43
You were one you had your fave
Backstreet
boy and you loved
Justin
in
NSync
.
Share
Katie Atkinson
07:45
And I don't think I owned
Spice Girls
or
Destiny's Child
. And I don't think I owned
Spice Girls
or
Destiny's Child
. But I liked them, but I didn't buy their stuff but I bought
NSync's
stuff.
Share
Keith Caulfield
07:60
That's interesting.
Share
Katie Atkinson
08:00
You know, I went and I bought tickets
to NSync
and
Backstreet.
Share
Keith Caulfield
08:04
But there's obviously definitely you know back in the day, little girls who were just like devoted to the
Spice Girls
and to
Destiny's Child
.
Share
Katie Atkinson
08:13
I just think the breadth of it might be a little bit bigger with the boy band.
Share
Keith Caulfield
08:17
Which could also be why we have seen, you know
BTS
topped the chart a number of times and we saw
Stray Kids
hit number 1. But
Black Pink
is the first example of a female South Korean K-pop aligned group to be number one female K-pop, anything to be number one on the charts.
Share
Katie Atkinson
08:33
Yeah so it's cool. I hope this is like a new era honestly.
Share
Keith Caulfield
08:35
Alright so breaking down some of the details. If you read my story on Sunday about the debut at number 1, I had some of these details in there and it really had oodles of details as I normally do in all my stories. But 63% of "Born Pink"'s debut week units were actually owed to sales of the album on CD.
Share
08:56
We've talked about this a lot. K-pop tends to do very well with selling CD albums and as is typical for K-pop acts. The CD configuration of the album was available in many collectible packages. 17 in total which is kind of not a crazy high number for some K-pop albums lately.
Share
09:16
And there were also exclusive versions for Target as well as the group's official web store.
Share
09:21
Interestingly each C. D. have the same eight song track list and a standard set of internal paper items like oh it's the booklet or it's you know the lyric sheet or whatever, but they all had randomized elements as well which is again typical for K-pop.
Share
09:35
Such as collectible photo cards. Which of the girls am I gonna get? There's one of 32 cards to collect and it becomes sort of a baseball card kind of collecting thing. Again, this is very typical for K-pop.
Share
09:49
Anyway, CD sales were also bolstered by the availability of signed editions of the album.
Share
09:54
There was actually four different cover variants of the album as well, and each of the girls signed their own edition of the cover. So of course that helped as well.
Taylor Swift
has done this famously by signing lots of albums and selling them and racking up those sales.
Share
Katie Atkinson
10:09
Making her wrist break in the meantime.
Share
Keith Caulfield
10:11
I wonder if she's going to do it with her next album.
Share
Katie Atkinson
10:13
Man, if she does it with her next album, she'll have to sign every all four portions of the clock.
Share
Keith Caulfield
10:18
Oh right because she has four different, look like if Taylor is doing something not quite this time, don't I think she has 17 different versions of the album. She's gone on her Instagram and she's like here's the four different vinyl versions of my album and if you put them all together, they make a clock, get it midnight and it's a clock.
Share
10:38
Like she's basically she's a clock and she's explaining to you why you need to buy all four copies of the album. She's she's a smart gal, she's a businesswoman, she's a business and she's a business woman, she's a woman business. Business.
Share
Katie Atkinson
10:52
This is the, like the famous
Jay
Z line. I'm not a businessman, I'm a business man, right? Is that what you wanted?
Share
Keith Caulfield
10:58
Thank you. Because because
Nicki
Minaj said it in a
Madonna
song, she was like.
Share
Katie Atkinson
11:04
That's where your knowledge of it come from.
Share
Keith Caulfield
11:07
Yes, it doesn't
Jay
it comes from
Nicki
in a
Madonna
track. Alright, moving on, concurrently.
Black Pink
song shut down from the Born Pink album debuts at number 25 on the Hot 100 giving the quartet its 5th Top 40 charting hit and the second from "Born Pink" following the number 22 pick "Pink Venom" earlier this year, globally.
Share
11:28
Yeah, globally the two songs, the most popular songs in the world as "Shut Down" in "Pink Venom" are numbers 1 and 2 on the
Billboard
Global 200 the
Billboard
Global, excluding US
Charts
.
Share
11:40
Next up over on the Hot 100 songs chart. A familiar face number one again this week, as
Harry Styles
"As It Was" notches just a 15th non-consecutive week atop the list.
Share
11:52
The song now has the most weeks at number 1 for a song by an act with no accompanying artist. That is no collaborations, no featured guests at the most weeks atop the chart. I said all that so terribly.
Share
Katie Atkinson
12:06
Well, he also has the most weeks atop the chart for a British act.
Share
Keith Caulfield
12:10
Like we're just going to move on, you're not gonna have to edit that. That's correct. All right. So the only songs with more weeks at number 1, are
Lil Nas X's
"Old Town Road" featuring
Billy Ray Cyrus
with 19 weeks,
Luis Fonsi
and
Daddy Yankee's
"Despacito" featuring
Justin
Bieber
with 16 and
Mariah Carey
and
Boyz II Men's
"One Sweet Day" with 16 weeks.
Share
12:34
And as Katie said, in terms of British acts as
Styles
of course, was born in England "As It Was" surpasses the 14-week run of two songs by British artist
Mark Ronson
, "Uptown Funk featuring
Bruno Mars
, Ronson is the Brit of those two. And
Elton John's
" Candle in the Wind/Something About The Way You Look Tonight, at this exact moment.
Share
Katie Atkinson
12:55
Harry Styles
is the only person who's ever had 15 weeks exactly at number 1 on the Hot 100. And I feel like he's going to get the 16 after seeing the release week, personally. So we'll see, I don't know,
Steve Lacy
might zip in there. Who knows.
Share
Keith Caulfield
13:11
Katie though, we talked about it last week with Gary who manages the Hot 100. Do you feel like Harry is on his way to making history? We are in very, very rare air now.
Share
Katie Atkinson
13:22
Yeah, I think he's going to get to the 16. I was kind of hoping he'd be the first with 15. Be nice to stand alone at 15. But I'm pretty sure he's going to get the 16, I don't know about beyond that. But I feel confident about the 16 after seeing this week of released.
Share
Keith Caulfield
13:36
Just because we don't know what is coming in the future?
Share
Katie Atkinson
13:39
I don't know what's going to drop out of the air on Friday.
Share
Keith Caulfield
13:42
As Gary suggested, he's like, who knows,
Taylor Swift
could drop a song out the sky.
Share
Katie Atkinson
13:45
Right and she didn't this past Friday, and we're going to talk about this in a second. But you know,
Elton
and
Britney
just put out this music video for "Hold Me Closer". Had they been more strategic about that. That could have been a real contender after reaching as high as number 6. But they didn't, they put out mid Tuesday.
Share
Keith Caulfield
14:03
Alright, well, last bit about the
Charts
and then we'll circle back
Britney
and
Elton
and
Rihanna
. Lastly staying with the Hot 100,
Luke Combs
, jumped 14 to 8 with "The Kind of Love We Make", thanks to a surge in all three metrics measured on the Hot 100, airplay sales, and streams.
Share
14:23
It's the second top 10 for the country singer who previously reached number two with "Forever After All" in 2020.
Share
Katie Atkinson
14:31
That's really impressive. That song has been out for a little bit too. It's not like it's it's a new release.
Share
Keith Caulfield
14:35
Yeah, I need to dig into it deeper. It makes me wonder if it's actually starting to cross over to maybe like Adult Top 40 and AC stations.
Share
Katie Atkinson
14:44
We shall see. Keith will tell you more later.
Share
14:48
Okay, we had some breaking
Pop Shop
news right before we recorded. So we thought we'd bring you some live hot takes on
Britney Spears
and
Elton John's
new music video for "Hold Me Closer".
Share
14:59
Yeah, I mean, we literally we recorded about 10 minutes late and if we hadn't we wouldn't have seen this video.
Share
15:05
So anyway, yeah, first of all, just to get the elephant in the room out of the way,
Britney Spears
and
Elton John
are in no way featured in this music video. Other than vocally correct?
Share
Keith Caulfield
15:17
Not I kept I squinted. I looked, not a blip.
Share
Katie Atkinson
15:23
And like, the video ends with like all of these dancers because kind of a dance video, it's a beautiful, like a bunch of partner dancing and an older gentleman and a young girl kind of like interacting and dancing.
Share
Keith Caulfield
15:35
It's very like modern, interpretive dance.
Share
Katie Atkinson
15:38
It's beautiful.
Share
Keith Caulfield
15:39
I'm not dismissing it.
Share
Katie Atkinson
15:40
Yeah, no, but it's if you were hoping for, you know, a classic
Britney Spears
music video because she's the queen of making a beautiful music video. This is not the one. I mean, honestly,
Elton John
also a famous music video artist. Neither of them are in this video.
Share
15:56
So I wish they would have called it a dance video but they actually called it the official music video, which means that they're just relenting this, we're not going to get that.
Share
Keith Caulfield
16:04
You mean like doing sort of like a
Justin
Bieber
sort of thing.
Share
Katie Atkinson
16:06
"Sorry". Yeah, so first, the "Sorry", which actually, that was probably the most successful dance music video of all time. I feel comfortable saying.
Share
Keith Caulfield
16:14
There also wasn't any other official video for "Sorry".
Share
Katie Atkinson
16:16
Yeah, but they called it a dance video and actually he released a dance video of every song from that album. And yeah, there wasn't ever a
Justin
Bieber
featuring video.
Share
Keith Caulfield
16:24
But
Britney
and
Elton
aren't in this video full stop now.
Elton's
last kind of remix revisit song, "Cold Heart" with
Dua Lipa
. But it had a music video. They were not physically in it, but there were animations.
Share
Katie Atkinson
16:40
I actually think that
Britney
fans would have appreciated an animated
Britney
over no
Britney
at all.
Share
Keith Caulfield
16:46
When they announced this video coming whatever it was like last week, the general reaction on social media was "
Britney
better be in this video". I'm like, you know what, I think it might be too much to expect
Britney
to to be in a video right now.
Share
Katie Atkinson
16:58
Too soon.
Share
Keith Caulfield
16:58
Now Katie had like a really nice thought before we got started and I don't want to steal it from her. What was your thought of how
Elton
and
Britney
could have been in the video?
Share
Katie Atkinson
17:07
Well that's what I was going to say. So it ends with these dancers who have been in the video throughout all sort of embracing each other, like the partners that have been dancing together. If they could have just gotten these two on a sound stage and just showed
Britney
and
Elton
hugging, I think it might have broken the internet.
Share
17:27
And I feel like enough people would have like kept going to that moment at the end of the video that they would have gotten just countless views and who's to say they didn't try? Who knows? I mean, these two have not gotten in the same place yet.
Britney
recorded with Watt here in America and
Elton
was not present for that. So we have not gotten these two in the same space yet.
Share
17:50
I mean, I don't know if we've gotten
Elton
and
Dua
in the same space since "Cold Heart" came out. I mean, I know she performed for his
Oscars
party like three years ago, two years ago.
Share
Keith Caulfield
18:02
And considering that the only PR images, the only publicity images that they've given out for this new single has been the one shot of
Elton
and
Britney
at
Elton's
AIDS Fundraiser
, a bajillion years ago.
Share
Katie Atkinson
18:12
That's not even that's just what's on
Getty
. That's just what we can access.
Share
Keith Caulfield
18:15
That is literally what
Elton's
publicity people have sent out as the official PR image.
Share
Katie Atkinson
18:21
Or those pictures of them as children. That cute little like her in a ballet costume and him at the piano as a kid.
Share
Keith Caulfield
18:27
So we this is probably as much as we were going to get. I mean, I guess even if they hadn't been, maybe, maybe it's for the best because there would have been so much sort of scrutiny on whatever
Britney
looked like, whatever
Elton
looked like. Oh they are together?
Share
Katie Atkinson
18:43
But it's a bummer when
Britney
is so like entwined with choreography and dancing in her career to like watch other people dance, it's like we see this girl on Instagram, she's dancing every flipping day.
Share
Keith Caulfield
18:54
They could have just said
Britney
, can you just turn on your camera and dance?
Share
Katie Atkinson
18:57
And start twirling like you do on Instagram every day.
Share
Keith Caulfield
18:59
And just go into a white studio and and we'll send over a glam squad and go.
Share
Katie Atkinson
19:05
This is what I'm saying, Keith.
Share
19:07
And it's labeled the official music video, which feels like we're not going to get another.
Share
Keith Caulfield
19:11
Doesn't mean there can't be a second official video.
Share
Katie Atkinson
19:13
Doesn't it doesn't mean that, but it feels like it might mean that.
Share
19:16
So, this is me, I will say, let me end on a positive note. I listening to it again with this beautiful vision gave me yet again, new appreciation for the song. It is a lovely song.
Share
19:28
I'm so happy that these two people made this lovely piece of pop music because I think the expectation going in was like, is this even going to be good? It's really good and it's beautiful with this dance video, so they made a nice work of art to go along with this beautiful pop song. So that's me ending on a lovely note.
Share
19:47
How about we talk about
Rihanna
now? So, on Sunday,
Rihanna
set the internet ablaze when she posted an image to her socials of her hand, her tattooed hand, holding an
NFL
branded football. And then not long after that
Roc Nation
, the
NFL
and
Apple Music
all confirmed the news on their socials.
Rihanna
will be the headliner of the 2023
Super Bowl
Halftime Show
. Keith, we have not talked about this yet.
Share
20:12
So let's just go with some rapid fire questions. Okay, what's your excitement factor on a scale of 1 to 10 for a
Rihanna
Halftime Show
?
Share
Keith Caulfield
20:18
11.
Share
Katie Atkinson
20:19
Right, same. Okay, glad we're on the same page. No one's like, this is a terrible idea.
Share
20:24
Number two, how does she possibly pick a 12 minute set list from her? Like, this is understanding it. Her hits-packed catalog.
Share
Keith Caulfield
20:34
You have like 12 minutes to somehow do justice. Now I think you have to set aside the fact that she's had, you know 31 Top 10 hits on the
Billboard
Hot one.
Share
Katie Atkinson
20:47
Even if she did like 15 seconds of each, she might not be able to get through 14 of them were number one.
Share
20:53
Oh my God, 14? My God.
Share
Keith Caulfield
20:56
So I think you have to absolutely just set aside how can we like somehow do her catalog? It's like, no, you're just gonna make a great show because someone is not going to hear the hit, they want to hear well.
Share
Katie Atkinson
21:07
And you know what history remembers songs differently than like the moment they hit number one. So like
Rihanna
has to know how she feels about performing, how her fans feel about certain songs like with history behind it now. Like we're talking about, you know, she's been around for 15 years, right? 15 years-ish.
Share
Keith Caulfield
21:24
2005 was when she had her first hit.
Share
Katie Atkinson
21:29
So 17 years, let's try that again. Almost two decades.
Share
21:32
We have in front Us,
Rihanna's
biggest
Billboard
Hot 100 hits.

Keith Caulfield
21:36
Her Top 30 Biggest Hits on the Hot, yes.
Share
Katie Atkinson
21:38
I think we, I think everybody in the world can agree that she needs to. Maybe she could just do this song for 12 minutes straight.
Share
Keith Caulfield
21:45
"We Found Love" with her and
Calvin Harris
. Can you imagine like the lasers?
Share
Katie Atkinson
21:50
There's no world in which this song is not involved in this
Halftime Show
. There's zero world. It is her biggest hit.
Share
Keith Caulfield
21:54
Calvin Harris shows up.
Share
Katie Atkinson
21:55
I love you, Calvin. We probably don't need you. Like we have your lovely track and that's what we'll get played. I mean you're handsome though, you're allowed to come.
Share
Keith Caulfield
22:05
Look when
Bruno Mars
did "Uptown Funk" the
Super Bowl
there was
Mark Ronson
in the background.
Share
Katie Atkinson
22:08
But I do think there's a strong chance that her second biggest hit is not performed.
Share
Keith Caulfield
22:12
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that will not be performed.
Share
Katie Atkinson
22:14
"Live Your Life". Although it's a very epic chorus. It would fit in well, but it's a
T. I.
song.
Share
Keith Caulfield
22:19
I don't think number 3, her third biggest hit will actually be performed.
Share
Katie Atkinson
22:23
I honestly think it shouldn't. It's a domestic violence song, "Love the Way You Lie". It's an
Eminem
song. A lot of people have been talking about how they've collaborated together multiple times, also on "The Monster" so he could pop up but I don't think he will.
Share
Keith Caulfield
22:37
I mean also if we're talking about sort of songs with kind of like sad depressing lyrics, we found love in a hopeless place. I'm like, I don't know if you just associated from the video and the era of that time. I guess you can be like, "woah dance party"!
Share
Katie Atkinson
22:50
Just listen to the track.
Share
Keith Caulfield
22:52
Do do do do do do do do, yeah, okay.
Share
22:54
Moving on.
Share
Katie Atkinson
22:55
Number 4,
Rihanna
featuring
Drake
, "Work".
Share
Keith Caulfield
22:57
She's doing it.
Share
Katie Atkinson
22:58
She has too but she doesn't need
Drake
for it.
Share
Keith Caulfield
23:00
But it would be cool if
Drake
showed up.
Share
Katie Atkinson
23:03
It would but she doesn't need him.
Share
Keith Caulfield
23:07
But she has to do number 5.
Share
Katie Atkinson
23:09
She has to do "Umbrella". Meanwhile,
Roc Nation
has been been curating the
Halftime Show
for the last four years.
Share
Keith Caulfield
23:17
Jay-Z doesn't need to be there. He does the intro.
Share
Katie Atkinson
23:20
He's already put out a glowing statement about like, you know her being this artist who was self made from
Barbados
and he will be there.
Share
Keith Caulfield
23:29
But he doesn't need to necessarily be on the song.
Share
23:31
Okay, so "Umbrella". Did we say "Umbrella"?
Share
23:34
So right now we have two songs she has to do. "We Found Love" and "Umbrella".
Share
Katie Atkinson
23:37
Yes, "Umbrella" was I think her moving from like a solid like star to a superstar.
Share
23:43
Right, okay, number 6?
Share
Keith Caulfield
23:44
Disturbia. No.
Share
Katie Atkinson
23:45
Nah, we don't need It.
Share
Keith Caulfield
23:47
Number 7, "Take A Bow", no.
Share
Katie Atkinson
23:48
We don't need it.
Share
Keith Caulfield
23:49
Number 8, "Rude Boy". That'd be fun, but she doesn't need it.
Share
23:51
Very fun but it won't happen.
Share
23:52
Number 9, "Diamonds". Yes. You have to.
Share
Katie Atkinson
23:56
Even if it's just like one bit of a chorus.
Share
Keith Caulfield
23:59
"Shine bright like a diamond", the entire stadium lights up.
Share
24:01
It would be a good transition song too, like you could do the chorus and then you can move to something else.
Share
Katie Atkinson
24:06
We don't need to see. I love you.
Share
Keith Caulfield
24:09
Number 10,
Calvin Harris
featuring
Rihanna
"This Is What You Came For". Nah.
Share
Katie Atkinson
24:12
This song is, well we don't need to get into it.
Share
Keith Caulfield
24:15
It's a great song, but I'm like I don't think most people will remember.
Share
24:17
It's a little tainted by the
Taylor Swift
controversy. She like co-wrote it under a pen name.
Share
24:21
Number 11,
Rihanna
"Only Girl (In The World)". Yes.
Share
Katie Atkinson
24:25
Yes, we need it.
Share
Keith Caulfield
24:27
Here's the thing. We're getting to a section of the chart like of her rankings. Like even things that aren't top that are such huge bangers. I don't know which one to pick.
Share
Katie Atkinson
24:37
Yes. The "Monster" doesn't need it. Doesn't need that. And it's also, it's an
Eminem
song, not a
Rihanna
song. Okay, this could be her Emo moment. "Stay" featuring
Mikky Ekko
again, sorry, to Mikky does not need Mikky on stage, but "Stay" is probably one of her biggest ballad. So if she wants like a big ballad singing moment? Could be a good one. Although, what's the other one from from Anti?
Share
Keith Caulfield
25:05
Was it that one?
Share
Katie Atkinson
25:07
No, the love one.
Share
Keith Caulfield
25:08
"Love on the Brain"?
Share
Katie Atkinson
25:10
"Love on the Brain". That could be the that could be the slow moment too. Potentially. You don't need a slow moment.
Share
25:16
Okay,
Rihanna
featuring
Drake
, "What's My Name?" If he's already there.
Share
Keith Caulfield
25:20
Ooh na-na, ooh yeah-yeah.
Share
Katie Atkinson
25:21
If he's already there for work, they probably will do that.
Share
25:25
Oh
Rihanna
featuring
Britney Spears
, S&M remix.
Share
Keith Caulfield
25:28
Come on.
Share
Katie Atkinson
25:29
I don't know about "S&M" for the Super Bowl.
Share
Keith Caulfield
25:31
I don't think so. If I mean it just shades of sort of, you know, Janet?
Share
Katie Atkinson
25:37
Okay, I'm gonna stop soon because we can't go through all 30. We should just stop.
Share
Keith Caulfield
25:41
I want to mention a few more that was farther down. Like "Pon De Replay" is number 18. "Don't Stop The Music" is number 19.
Share
Katie Atkinson
25:48
"Don't Stop The Music" is like that was the thing that made me fall in love as a
Rihanna
fan.
Share
Keith Caulfield
25:52
Please don't stop the, please don't stop.
Share
Katie Atkinson
25:54
And the
Michael Jackson
sample.
Share
Keith Caulfield
25:57
What if she does a medley of like, "Wanna Be Start Something" and-
Share
Katie Atkinson
26:01
She doesn't have time.
Share
Keith Caulfield
26:02
I think "Where Have You Been" could be a really big moment. And then number 22, "S. O. S."
Share
Katie Atkinson
26:10
I feel like she has to reference the very beginning and I think "S. O. S." is the one to do versus "Pon De Replay".
Share
26:16
But "S. O. S." is her first number one, right, Keith on the Hot 100?
Share
Keith Caulfield
26:19
Yes.
Share
Katie Atkinson
26:19
So I think that makes total sense.
Share
Keith Caulfield
26:22
And that's just covering what she might be performing. We haven't answered all the questions.
Share
Katie Atkinson
26:27
I don't know if she's going to put out a new album or a new single before then.
Share
Keith Caulfield
26:30
Maybe she'll put out a greatest hits album.
Share
26:32
Like
The Weeknd
style.
Share
26:34
Maybe she's just introducing the new cosmetics or fashion line.
Share
Katie Atkinson
26:37
I got a lot of jokes made about her basically being a
Fenty
exec. at this point versus a musician. I mean maybe she'll do a
Fenty
drop around it, she's not gonna do it on stage.
Share
Keith Caulfield
26:48
I had lots of thoughts. Like will there be new music? Is there going to be a new studio album? Maybe her first greatest hits album after all, we've gotten hits packages recently from
The Weeknd
. That one was actually timed to his
Super Bowl
performance.
Nicki
and
Eminem
all have dropped new new albums. Or maybe it's just hey it's a new song introducing my new
Fenty Savage
lingerie collection.
Share
27:11
You know, I also thought like if this is sponsored by
Apple Music
, does this mean that she actually has a larger exclusive deal with
Apple Music
in the works? Does that mean maybe new music will be exclusively window to to
Apple Music
? Does her Savage Fashion Show, which has been on what streaming service was it on?
Share
Katie Atkinson
27:30
Amazon Prime.
Share
Keith Caulfield
27:30
Will it move to Apple or something?
Share
27:33
I'm thinking of all these things in the background.
Share
Katie Atkinson
27:35
The business.
Share
Keith Caulfield
27:35
The business stuff because she's such-
Share
Katie Atkinson
27:37
Because she's not a businesswoman, she's a business woman.
Share
27:41
I want to make one last point even though we have no time.
Share
27:44
Rihanna
reportedly turned down the 2019
Super Bowl
Halftime Show
which was eventually headlined by
Maroon 5
. We don't talk about that. In solidarity with quarterback
Colin Kaepernick
, who was iced out of the
NFL
after leading the charge for players to kneel during the national anthem.
Share
27:57
I want to bring this up because I feel like having made that very public move and turning it down because of
Kaepernick
, there's no chance that she is not gonna squeeze in. Some sort of reference to that. I don't think that she will do this without having some reference to the
Kaepernick
debacle.
Share
28:18
I think I could see her wearing like a
Kaepernick
jersey, something small. A nod sort of like
Eminem
kneeled during the
Super Bowl
Halftime Show
earlier this year,
Jennifer Lopez
included kids in literal cages during her performance when that was happening in the
Trump
administration.
Share
28:34
Rihanna
feels like the kind of artist who is secure enough in her position in the world and obviously in business that middle fingers in the air, maybe not literally like
M. I.
A during the
Madonna
show. But I think
that Rihanna
will definitely make a statement of some nature during this
Halftime Show
.
Share
Keith Caulfield
28:50
Considering it is very much you need me.
Share
28:58
All right. Are we moving on?
Share
