Alan Muraoka
00:50
Hello there. It's me,
Alan.
Share
Elmo
00:53
And
Elmo
.
Elmo's
here too.
Share
Alan Muraoka
00:55
And
Elmo
too.
Elmo's
here with me at
Hooper's Store
while his mommy and daddy run some errands. We're glad you're here too.
Share
Elmo
01:03
Yeah.
Elmo
really likes being with his friends.
Share
01:07
Hey, Adam. Almost mostly here at
Hooper's
during the daytime.
Share
Alan Muraoka
01:12
That's right. I guess this is the first time you're here so close to bedtime.
Share
Elmo
01:17
What does
Alan
do in the store then?
Share
Alan Muraoka
01:20
Well, I have a lot to do before I head home for my own bedtime.
Share
Elmo
01:24
Like what? Do you have to brush your teeth and put on your pajamas like
Elmo
?
Share
Alan Muraoka
01:30
Yes, but not until later when I'm home. Here at
Hooper's Store
. I have a routine. Things I do every night before I close the store. Let's see. I tidy up the shelves. I put away all these forks and spoons and stack the plates. Then I have to fold all the napkins.
Share
Elmo
01:49
Wow, that's a lot to do.
Share
Alan Muraoka
01:53
What would you like to do while I'm tidying up the store? Would you like to do some coloring? I've got some crayons and coloring books for you.
Share
Elmo
02:01
Elmo
does like coloring. But
Elmo
has an idea.
Share
Alan Muraoka
02:06
Yes?
Share
Elmo
02:07
Elmo
would like to help
Alan
.
Share
Alan Muraoka
02:10
That's so kind of you to help me,
Elmo
. What a nice idea. I know. While I fill up some of these empty shelves with more cans of peas and beans, it would be a great help if you could sort the spoons and forks into two different piles.
Share
Elmo
02:27
Yeah, what can do that?
Share
Alan Muraoka
02:29
There should be 10 forks and 10 spoons. Can you count them for me to?
Share
Elmo
02:34
Sure.
Share
Alan Muraoka
02:35
Thank you,
Elmo
.
Share
Elmo
02:36
Okay,
Elmo
will start sorting spoons and forks now. Then
Elmo
will count all of them.
Share
02:45
Okay, all the spoons go here. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. 10 spoons altogether.
Share
03:06
And now that forks. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. 10 forks altogether.
Share
Alan Muraoka
03:24
Wow, that's some super-duper counting,
Elmo.
And fast. What a big help.
Share
Elmo
03:30
What else can
Elmo
do,
Alan
?
Elmo
likes to help. What else?
Share
Alan Muraoka
03:35
While I'm stacking plates. Can you fold these napkins? There should be 10 of those too.
Share
Elmo
03:41
Sure,
Alan
. Just listen to, I will count.
Share
03:44
Okay, here goes. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. 10 napkins altogether.
Share
Alan Muraoka
04:01
Elmo
. You helped me finish tidying up the store. Thank you so much. That was really kind of you.
Share
Elmo
04:07
It was fun.
Elmo
likes to help out.
Share
Alan Muraoka
04:10
I'm glad. But now let's get you home because it's almost time for my super-duper helper to get ready for bed.
Share
Elmo
04:18
But
Elmo's
not sleepy yet,
Alan
.
Elmo's
wide awake.
Share
Alan Muraoka
04:23
I see. Well, sometimes when I'm wide awake but it's time for me to rest I imagine I'm here in the store when it's quiet and almost empty like it is now.
Share
Elmo
04:37
Maybe
Elmo
can try that too.
Share
Alan Muraoka
04:40
It'll be nice to know we're imagining it together. And do you want to know my favorite part of my closing up routine?
Share
Elmo
04:48
Uh-hm.
Share
Alan Muraoka
04:48
I have a special thing that I do. The last thing that I do every night before I close up the store-
Share
Elmo
04:56
Please tell Elmo, please.
Share
Alan Muraoka
04:58
Well, before I shut the door and lock it with the key. I say "Good night" to the store.
Share
Elmo
05:05
Elmo
says goodnight, baby David too. Every night right before
Elmo
goes to sleep.
Share
Alan Muraoka
05:12
Baby David, you're stuffed toy, lovey. That's a nice part of your bedtime routine.
Share
Elmo
05:18
But saying goodnight to the store sounds fun too.
Share
Alan Muraoka
05:22
Exactly, like you say night-night to baby David. Only I say goodnight, little store. Goodnight
Hooper's
.
Share
Elmo
05:32
That's nice.
Share
Alan Muraoka
05:33
Tonight I'd like to say goodnight to the store with my all-time best super-duper helper.
Share
Elmo
05:41
That's
Elmo
, right? You want to say it with
Elmo
?
Share
Alan Muraoka
05:44
That's right.
Share
Elmo
05:45
Yep. You're super duper helper can do that too,
Alan.
Anything to help at
Hooper's
because
Elmo
loves to help.
Share
Alan Muraoka
06:05
Okay,
Elmo.
To help us both feel nice and calm. Let's take a slow belly breath together. That sure would help me to relax after this busy day. What do you say?
Share
Elmo
06:18
Uh-huh. My nose have to do those.
Share
Alan Muraoka
06:21
That's good. So let's breathe slowly in through our noses. Then slowly breathe out through our mouths.
Share
06:36
And now let's say a little rhyme. One that'll make you feel relaxed instead of wide awake.
Share
Elmo
06:43
Okay, Elmo likes rhymes.
Share
Alan Muraoka
06:46
Terrific.
Share
06:47
It goes like this. 10 little fingers, 10 little toes, two Little Ears, and one Little Nose. Two little eyes that shine so bright. And one Little Monster to wish Good Night.
Share
Elmo
07:06
Elma likes that rhyme.
Share
Alan Muraoka
07:09
Let's say it together slowly and quietly.
Share
07:13
Okay.
Share
07:14
Here goes. 10 little fingers, 10 little toes.
Share
Elmo
07:20
10 little fingers, 10 little toes.
Share
Alan Muraoka
07:24
Two little ears and one little nose.
Share
Elmo
07:29
Two little ears and one little nose.
Share
Alan Muraoka
07:33
Two little eyes that shine so bright.
Share
Elmo
07:37
Two little eyes that shine so bright.
Share
Alan Muraoka
07:41
And one little monster to wish good night.
Share
Elmo
07:46
And one little monster to wish good night.
Share
Alan Muraoka
07:51
Nice. That was some fantastic rhyming,
Elmo
.
Share
Elmo
07:55
Thanks,
Alan
.
Elmo
didn't know that saying a rhyme could help
Elmo
feel relaxed and ready for bedtime.
Share
Alan Muraoka
08:05
Well, I knew I could count on my super-duper helper to help me with some belly breaths. And then to imagine
Hooper's Store
together all peaceful and quiet at night. But before we imagine that together and get ready to start
Elmo's
bedtime routine. Let's do this.
Share
Elmo
08:27
What
Alan
?
Share
Alan Muraoka
08:29
Let's say goodnight to the store together.
Share
Elmo
08:34
Yes,
Elmo
would like that. And was ready to say it. Goodnight little store. Goodnight Hoopers.
Share
Tanya Alexander-Henderson
08:57
Hooper's Store
is quiet at the end of the day as
Alan
and
Elmo
help the last customers.
Share
09:10
The door swishes open and closed as the last customers leave and walk home on
Sesame Street
.
Share
09:23
One last customer chooses a silver sparkly box of brand new toothpaste from a shelf. She thanks
Elmo
and
Alan,
and opened the door to leave. As she walks out onto
Sesame Street
. She smiles and waves goodnight and the door clicks shut behind her.
Share
09:57
Now it's time to clean up and close down the store for the night.
Share
10:04
Alan
ties a red apron around his waist and gets ready to clean.
Elmo
sits on a tall chair, happy to help. Outside in the arbor, next to
Hooper's
there are three tables covered in red and white checkered tablecloths.
Share
10:35
Elmo
watches as
Alan
Walks out one door and moves between the tables, picking up the cups and plates, and spoons left behind by the last customers.
Alan
carries them back inside. The cups and plates, and spoons make a clinking sound as he stacks them in the sink.
Share
11:09
Then he turned the faucet on. The water splashes gently as he uses so and a sponge to wash the dishes. Then he rinses them in warm clean water and sets them on towels to dry.
Share
11:34
Elmo
loves the smell of the bubbly dish soap. He goes over and helps
Alan
to dry the shiny spoons, drying off every last drop of water. Then
Elmo
puts the spoons back inside their drawer, as
Alan
stacks the cups and plates back on the shelf where they stay neatly, one on top of the other. All nice and sparkly clean.
Share
12:17
It's been a busy shopping day in
Hooper's Store
too, and some shelves are almost empty.
Alan
goes into the back room and returns with the raily cart full of new boxes of cereal, pasta, and crackers to place on the shelves. The card goes shoo-shoo-shoo as he rolls it from aisle to aisle, placing new boxes and cans of beans and veggies in the empty spots where they belong.
Share
13:05
Elmo
loves how each thing has its own special spot in the store. Cereal goes on the bottom shelf. The cereal boxes are red and blue, and yellow.
Alan
places each box on the bottom shelf.
Elmo
wants to help. So
Alan
lets him do the boxes of crackers next. These go on the middle shelf. Soon enough, all the shelves are restocked for the night, ready for new customers in the morning.
Share
13:53
Next,
Alan
takes a yellow broom and sweeps the floor. He starts on one side of the store and sweeps to the other side, swish, swishing all the dust from the day into little piles. Then he scoops up the dust in a dustpan.
Share
14:23
After he swept the floor. It's time to wash it.
Alan
gets a floppy mop and bucket out of the closet. He fills the bucket with soap and water. Then he takes the floppy mop and dips it in the mop. Makes a swishy sound as
Alan
pushes it around the floor.
Share
14:57
Elmo
sits on his tall chair at the counter. He giggles and lifts his feet up and out of the way whenever the mop swishes close. In no time the floor is clean.
Share
15:19
Light from the street can be seen through the windows of
Hooper's Store
. The shelves are restocked, the floors are swept and mopped, and the dishes have been washed and dry.
Elmo
and
Alan
have cleaned the store.
Share
15:43
The shop sparkles like new. Now it's time to go home.
Alan
takes
Elmo's
hand and together they opened the door and walk out of the store, switching off the lights in the shop.
Alan
closes the door behind them.
Share
16:12
Outside
Elmo
feels a cool night breeze.
Alan
takes a shiny gold key from his pocket. As he locks the door it makes a quiet click sound. Now the store is closed for the night. Tomorrow it's another big day at
Hooper's Store
: cooking food and helping people find what they need.
